The Tour Itinerary for this 5 Days tour in Kerala

DAY 01 Arrive Kochi/Ernakulam and Drive to Munnar (130 Kms, 4 Hrs)

Welcome to Kerala, God’s Own Country! Upon your arrival in Kochi before noon, you will be greeted. Later, drive through vibrant towns adorned with churches and temples, passing endless stretches of rubber and tea plantations, pristine valleys, and scenic mountains on your way to Munnar—the haven of peace and tranquility. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight stay in Munnar.

Day 02 Day at Munnar

After breakfast, set out on a scenic exploration of Munnar, a destination known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich heritage. Visit Mattupetty Dam, where serene waters reflect the surrounding hills, and take in the panoramic views from Pothamedu Viewpoint. Enjoy the natural acoustics at Echo Point and gain insight into the region’s tea legacy at the Tea Museum, along with visits to other key attractions. As the day winds down, take a stroll through the charming town, soaking in its tranquil ambiance, or explore local markets for premium tea, coffee, and spices—a perfect souvenir of your journey. Day 03 Munnar to Thekkady (100 Kms, 03 Hrs)

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Thekkady, a dream destination nestled amidst fragrant cardamom plantations. Along this breathtaking route, enjoy photo stops at picturesque viewpoints or savor a cup of freshly brewed tea from a local stall. Keep your camera ready to capture the stunning landscapes. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and unwind.

In the afternoon, explore a spice plantation, where you’ll get a fascinating glimpse into how spices like cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon are cultivated. You may also opt for a wildlife boat safari on the Periyar Lake (tickets and entry fees to be paid directly, subject to availability). Depending on the season, you might spot elephants, wild boars, bison, or even a playful herd of deer along the shores. Overnight stay in Thekkady. (B)

Day 04 Thekkady to Kumarakom (130 Kms, 4 to 4 1/2 Hours)

If you haven’t already, consider an early morning boat ride in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary (tickets and entry fees to be paid directly, and queueing is required). As you cruise through the tranquil waters, you may spot wild animals along the shores, coming to quench their thirst.

After breakfast, descend from the hills, passing through lush green mountains, seasonal streams, and charming towns, before arriving at Kumarakom, an exotic backwater destination on the banks of Vembanad Lake. Check in to your hotel and relax, soaking in the serene beauty around you.

If your hotel offers a sunset cruise, it’s a great way to enjoy the enchanting views over the lake. You can also choose to indulge in optional activities like an Ayurvedic massage, a motor canoe cruise, or a village walk, all available at an additional cost directly at the hotel. Overnight stay in Kumarakom. (B)

Day 05 Kumarakom to Kochi airport or Ernakulam Railway Station

After breakfast, take some leisurely moments to soak in the last glimpses of Kerala’s beauty. Enjoy a relaxed morning, perfect for some last-minute photos to capture the essence of your journey or for a final stroll around your hotel surroundings. You can also double-check your belongings and pack at ease before departure. By noon, we will transfer you to Kochi Airport (2 Hours) or Ernakulam Railway Station (90 Minutes) for your return journey. To ensure a smooth and unhurried departure, we recommend booking flights or trains scheduled for 5:00 PM or later. Tours ends.(B)

Experience Enhancing Tips for this 5 Days tour in Kerala

Arrival & Departure city

To take this tour, you will have to arrive and depart from Kochi Airport (COK). If by train, you will have to arrive and depart at Ernakulam Town (ERN) or Ernakulam Junction (ERS). The nearest rail station to Kumarakom is Kottayam (KTYM), which can be considered for departure too.

Arrival Tips

Most hotels in Kerala follow a standard check-in time of 12:00 PM and check-out at 10:00 AM. To enhance your experience, consider arriving before noon. Munnar is approximately a 4-hour drive from Kochi, and we recommend arriving before 9:00 AM.

Departure Tips

We recommend departing from Kochi after 1700 Hrs. The Kumarakom Kochi drive takes approximately two hours. Departing later may give you sometime enjoy a brief shopping session or a quick sightseeing tour in Kochi before your journey home.

For late arrivals

If your flight or train arrives after 4:00 PM, we recommend adding an extra night in Kochi. This allows you to avoid a late-night drive through the hills, ensuring a safer and more comfortable journey.

Tour Extension Ideas

Incase you have extra days and happy with this routing you can conisder extra night at Thekkady or Kumarakom. You can also consider adding on a night in Kerala Houseboat. Adding on One night at Kochi for is also good idea.

Hotels are always on a bed-and-breakfast basis, while the houseboat is on full-board. We exclude lunch, dinner, and entry fees to provide you with flexibility in dining and paying for attractions.
